I had an opportunity in college to take a ceramics class and work on the wheel. I loved it. I was not good on the wheel, but I kept practicing. My school, (The University of Findlay), only had 2 classes in ceramics and a couple sculptural classes, but I figured out ways to keep going to the studio. I was fortunate enough to do a 5th year internship in the ceramics department and was able to work on the wheel and learned so much about the process. It was so exciting to see what decorative element I could give my pieces and how I could push my forms. When I was working on my master's in liberal arts, I focused on pottery and its different design elements for my thesis.
After college, I continued to work in my little home studio wherever I lived. Sometimes it was a laundry room, sometimes a basement or garage, but I always tried to let clay drive me and fulfill that creative need (sorry roommates). I did farmers markets and smaller shows for many years until my husband and I started a family.
I have a supportive husband, three energetic boys and two playful dogs to keep my life interesting. My youngest is now in school, so I hope to find more time to work on the wheel and in the studio creating lovely pieces of functional art.
